Creative Commons
- Hi @MasterRus21thCentury, I don't speak Russian very well (I'm still learning), so I'll answer your questions in English. The last time an open letter about freedom of panorama was sent to the Azerbaijani parliament was in 2013, and as far as I know, there has been no another letter since then. AFAIK, there were no active negotiations with government agencies. However, in some cases we have been able to obtain individual permission. For example, we can upload Dilavar Najafov's (Azerbaijani sports photographer) photos with {{Cc-by-sa-4.0 Dilaver Najafov}}. See photos here: https://w.wiki/FxGFRegarding cooperation with other organizations, I can say that we are currently working on the election of the board of the user group. After the election, I plan to contact with some organizations, etc. for cooperation. I have draft list here: az:İstifadəçi:Nemoralis/Azad məzmun namizədləri. - So. Please write to the Russian Wikipedia embassy or forward it to your colleague Interfase, or to the general Russian Wikipedia forum.
- In turn, a new petition should be created, given its severe outdated status and current global trends. It should be trilingual – in addition to Azerbaijani, it will be in Russian and English.
- The background to all this is as follows: in November 2018, Russian Wikipedia members posted a petition to the management of TASS and RIA Novosti asking them to make many historical photographs publicly available due to Wikimedia Commons's poor coverage of the Russian world in the 20th century. This refers to the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union, and the post-Soviet space. However, after some controversy, this ceased. For example, RIA Novosti provided Wikimedia Commons with two thousand photographs in 2011-2012, some of which were considered valuable and selected, but after that, the collaboration ended and was never resumed.
- In the case of Azerbaijan, the key themes are: Black January 1990, the Karabakh War, Heydar Aliyev (his photo with two Hero of Socialist Labor stars was taken by Eduard Pesov and featured on a 2013 postage stamp), and others you might consider. Heroes of the Soviet Union and Heroes of Socialist Labor could also be added here—most of these are newspaper reproductions and very grainy.
- I am currently in discussions with several organizations about providing photographs from their collections, but I will not disclose their list. Thank you. MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 22:28, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
